It’s interesting to point out that the feature is supposed to function even with the smartphone screen off. As part of the company’s “Project Astra”, the feature, known as Gemini Live, made its debut at Google I/O 2024 and is anticipated to launch later this year.

The tech company highlighted its potential as part of “Project Astra” during Google I/O 2024, where the first rumours of Gemini Live appeared. This feature, makes use of Google’s advances in machine learning and natural language processing to allow for smooth two-way conversations that are comparable to speaking with human.

In its first presentation, Gemini Live was portrayed as having features similar to a conventional phone call interface, such as the ability to pause and end talks. According to reports, Gemini will allow users to choose from ten distinct voices, giving their conversations a more unique feel. Importantly, Gemini will automatically adjust to pauses and context shifts during talks, increasing the feature’s fluidity and usability.

Users are expected to toggle an option in order to allow Gemini Live on closed screens, which allows the AI to operate in the background. Users may effortlessly manage their relationships with Gemini by having control over current chats through continuous notification.

Gemini Live is being developed under Project Astra, with the goal of delivering functions that anticipate user needs and increase productivity.

Google aims to make AI support more accessible and convenient by allowing users to interact with Gemini in a variety of circumstances, including as while multitasking with other apps or accessing the AI while their smartphone is locked. This has the potential to change how users use their smartphones, with AI serving as a natural assistant in their daily activities.

Concerns about privacy and security must be addressed when using any background feature. Google will need to address these issues openly, guaranteeing strong measures to protect user data and retain trust once Gemini Live goes live.

Gemini Live is designed for Android smartphones, but its availability on other platforms, such as iOS or desktop, is uncertain currently.
As Google prepares for Gemini Live later this year, the excitement among tech fans and AI experts is extreme.
